  • Dunville’s Whisky Poster

An original Irish whiskey advertisement design from the late 1800s, promoting Dunville’s Whisky of Belfast.

Printed in the 1980s by Nicholson & Bass, Belfast, using full-colour lithography, this poster comes from an original print run — not a modern digital reproduction. These prints were produced in limited quantities and supplied to pubs as décor. When this stock is gone, it is gone.

Dunville’s Irish whiskey poster hanging in a traditional pub setting

Seen in Irish pubs and homes worldwide, this Dunville’s Whiskey poster remains a favourite for traditional pub décor and Irish-inspired interiors.

These advertisements once appeared in pubs and spirit grocers across Ireland. This poster is a later print, produced in the 1980s and supplied to pubs as part of their décor.

A striking and highly recognisable piece of Irish whiskey advertising, this vintage Dunville’s poster features the iconic waitress in a shamrock dress, serving Dunville’s Special Liqueur Whisky and V.R. Fine Old Whisky.

Rich in colour and detail, the design captures the confidence and character of Ireland’s golden age of whiskey — making it one of the most distinctive and sought-after Irish pub prints.

The poster is signed by Edward Cole in the lower left corner and has “Henry Hindesley Ltd. London” printed in the lower right. Henry Hindesley Ltd. was active in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and is also associated with poster printing work in London.

John Dunville, the founder of Dunville & Co. launched their best-known brand of whisky, V.R., in 1837 after Queen Victoria (Victoria Regina) ascended the throne. A facinating account of the Dunville Family of Northern Ireland and Dunville's Whisky can be found at dumville.org.
