Donard Dew Old Irish Whiskey Poster

This poster was printed in the 1980s from the original advertisement design and supplied to pubs as décor. Produced as part of an original lithographic print run by Nicholson & Bass, Belfast, it is not a modern reproduction. These posters are original 1980s print stock and remaining copies are increasingly difficult to source.

These advertisements once appeared in pubs and spirit grocers across Ireland. This poster is a later print, produced in the 1980s and supplied to pubs as décor.

The original artwork was created by William Strain & Sons, a Belfast and London printing company active in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They produced advertising for a number of Irish whiskey businesses, including other designs in this collection such as McKibbin Club Liqueur Whisky and Cowan’s Whisky.

With its Castlewellan connection and distinctive early Irish advertising design, the poster works particularly well in traditional pubs, home bars, kitchens and other interiors where an authentic piece of Irish pub culture is wanted.
