Old Irish Tobacco Advertisement Posters

These posters feature original Irish tobacco advertisement designs from the late 1800s and early 1900s, printed as posters in the 1980s by Nicholson & Bass, Belfast, and supplied to pubs across Ireland.

The collection features historic cigarette and tobacco advertising associated with Gallaher Ltd., founded by Tom Gallaher in Londonderry in 1857. By the late nineteenth century, Gallaher had become one of Ireland’s best-known tobacco businesses, operating from Belfast and exporting internationally.

Rich in colour and detail, the designs reflect the bold style and craftsmanship of Irish advertising from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The posters later became part of the familiar atmosphere and character of traditional Irish pubs.
