Grattan’s Ginger Ale Poster

Grattan’s Ginger Ale Poster features artwork from original Belfast mineral water and soft drink advertising designs from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Ginger ale advertisements such as this became closely associated with pubs, spirit grocers and public houses throughout Ireland.

This poster is original 1980s print stock produced from the historic advertisement artwork and printed as a lithographic poster by Nicholson & Bass, Belfast. These posters were supplied to pubs across Ireland as décor and are not modern reproductions. Remaining stock is finite and increasingly scarce.

These advertisements once appeared in pubs and spirit grocers across Ireland. This poster is a later print, produced in the 1980s and supplied to pubs as décor.

Belfast mineral water and ginger ale companies formed an important part of Irish commercial advertising during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The bold typography and traditional design style of Grattan’s Ginger Ale became part of the familiar atmosphere seen on the walls of Irish pubs for decades.

Today these posters are recognised from traditional Irish pub interiors and are popular for home bars, hospitality spaces, Irish-themed interiors and collections focused on historic Irish advertising.
