Grattan’s Belfast Waters Poster

Grattan’s Belfast Waters Poster features artwork from original Belfast mineral water advertising designs dating from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The design reflects the strong tradition of Belfast soft drink and mineral water merchants whose advertisements once appeared throughout pubs, grocers and public houses across Ireland.

This poster is original 1980s print stock produced from the historic advertisement artwork and printed as a lithographic poster by Nicholson & Bass, Belfast. These were supplied to pubs across Ireland as interior décor and are not modern reproductions. Stock is finite and increasingly difficult to replace once sold out.

These advertisements once appeared in pubs and spirit grocers across Ireland. This poster is a later print, produced in the 1980s and supplied to pubs as décor.

The bold typography and distinctive blue background reflect the confident style of Irish drinks advertising once commonly seen in bars, grocers and licensed premises across Ireland.

Belfast mineral water advertising became a familiar part of Irish pub interiors during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Posters such as Grattan’s Belfast Waters combined bold typography and commercial branding with the distinctive visual style associated with Irish public houses of the period.

Today these posters are widely recognised from traditional Irish pub walls and are popular for home bars, pub interiors, Irish-themed spaces and collections focused on Irish advertising history.
