The Irish Whiskey Company Poster

The Irish Whiskey Company Advertisement Poster is based on an original Irish whiskey advertisement from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The design promoted The Irish Whiskey Company, a Belfast whiskey merchant associated with brands including Old Cora Malt, Slemish Whiskey and The Company’s Old Irish.

This poster was printed in the 1980s from the original advertisement design and supplied to pubs as décor. Produced as part of an original lithographic print run by Nicholson & Bass, Belfast, it is not a modern reproduction. These posters are original 1980s print stock and remaining copies are increasingly scarce.

These advertisements once appeared in pubs and spirit grocers across Ireland. This poster is a later print, produced in the 1980s and supplied to pubs as décor.

The richly detailed artwork reflects the style of Irish whiskey advertising during a period when Belfast was a major commercial and industrial centre. The poster features the company’s principal whiskey brands alongside the historic provincial flags of Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connaught, reinforcing its strong Irish identity.

Old Cora Malt was promoted as “The King of Whiskies”, while Slemish Whiskey carried the slogan “Dew of Slemish”, referencing the famous County Antrim mountain associated with Saint Patrick. Posters such as this were designed to create strong brand recognition in pubs, spirit grocers and export markets throughout Ireland and overseas.

The combination of Irish symbolism, whiskey branding and traditional typography has made this one of the most recognisable styles of Irish pub poster design. Today it remains popular for Irish pub décor, home bars and interiors inspired by traditional Irish pubs.
