Thwaites Soda Water in Dublin

The Thwaites soda-water business was established in Dublin in 1799 by Augustine Thwaites. Its name became associated with Dublin’s early mineral-water trade and the commercial production of soda water.

The strong lettering and direct commercial message reflect the style of historic Irish drinks advertising. Displayed alongside whiskey, tobacco and mineral-water advertisements, designs such as this became a familiar feature of traditional Irish pub interiors.

Today, the poster works naturally in Irish pubs, home bars, kitchens, hospitality interiors and collections of historic Dublin advertising and Irish pub memorabilia.
